Terms & Conditions

Ownership and Acceptance of Terms

This website is owned and operated by Lumen Education (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our website, tutoring services, and related resources. By accessing or using this website or enrolling in our services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use our website or services.

Service Overview

Lumen Education provides online tutoring in subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, and more, tailored to students across a range of year levels. Classes are delivered in real time via platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom, taught by qualified teachers who provide personalized guidance.

Our aim is to help students build confidence, improve academic results, and foster independent learning skills. These Terms apply to all students and their guardians who register for and use our services.

Registration & Account Management

A parent or legal guardian must complete the registration process and provide accurate information, including the student’s name, grade level, and contact details.

Upon registration, course details, Zoom links, and resources will be sent by email. Parents/guardians must ensure that the registered email address remains active and secure.

Class Attendance & Leave Policy

  • If a student needs to take leave (personal or medical), the parent/guardian must notify us in advance via email or WeChat.

  • Make-up classes are generally not provided. Special cases may be considered, but arrangements are not guaranteed.

  • Each student is entitled to one leave per term, which can be converted into a Credit for the following term. Credits expire if the student does not re-enrol and cannot be refunded, transferred, or used by others.

  • Absences without notice are considered forfeited classes, with no refund or credit.

Class Access & Participation

Classes are strictly limited to enrolled students only. Unregistered individuals are not permitted to join, audit, or “sit in” on any lessons under any circumstances. Students and guardians must not invite, share access, or allow others to use their accounts or devices to attend classes. If any unauthorized participation is detected, we reserve the right to immediately suspend the student’s access and, if necessary, terminate enrolment without refund.

Intellectual Property

  • All course content, teaching materials, lesson plans, handouts, and assignments remain the intellectual property of Lumen Education and its teachers, and are protected by law. Unauthorized copying, recording, distribution, or commercial use is strictly prohibited.

  • Student work is used only for teaching purposes. Any sharing or display of student work requires prior consent.

  • Teachers may use AI-detection tools to verify assignments. Checks are limited to the content itself and do not involve personal data.

Privacy & Data Protection

  • We collect only the minimum personal information necessary (e.g., student name, grade, and parent contact details) for teaching, communication, and progress tracking. Data is securely protected and not shared with third parties without consent.

  • Classes are not normally recorded. Unauthorized recording, screen capture, or distribution by students or parents is prohibited. In special cases where recording is required, consent will be sought, and Zoom will display a notification.

  • Students and parents must not share other students’ or teachers’ personal information, or misuse platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom.

Fees & Refund Policy

  • Tuition fees are communicated clearly at registration and must be paid on time.

  • Refunds are available under the following conditions:

    • Full refund if requested before the term begins.

    • Refund requests within 7 days of term start are subject to deductions for incurred costs.

    • No refunds after 7 days from the start of term.

    • Absences without notice or for personal reasons are not eligible for refund (see Section 3).

  • Tuition is billed by term (typically 9–11 weeks), in line with New Zealand school terms. Next-term invoices are issued before the end of the current term and must be paid before the new term begins.

  • Requests to change or withdraw from courses must be made at least 2 weeks in advance; late requests may be declined or subject to late fees.

Code of Conduct

Students are expected to follow classroom guidelines, including:

  • Keeping cameras on during lessons.

  • Refraining from eating, shouting, or engaging in unrelated activities.

  • Respecting teachers and peers and participating actively.

  • Submitting assignments on time.

Repeated violations may result in contact with parents, and in serious cases, suspension or termination of enrolment.

Service Interruptions & Disclaimer

We will make reasonable efforts to ensure uninterrupted operation of teaching platforms. If classes are disrupted due to technical failures, network issues, or force majeure (e.g., natural disasters), make-up sessions or refunds may be arranged where feasible.

Lumen Education is not responsible for disruptions caused by the student’s own device or internet connection; such absences will not be refunded or rescheduled.

Amendments & Right of Interpretation

Lumen Education reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time as necessary. Updates will be communicated via email or Google Classroom announcements and take effect immediately.

In the event of disputes or uncertainty, Lumen Education retains the final right of interpretation of these Terms.
